The 2016 Top Scholars: Kyla Mitchell, San Bernardino Valley (CA) Chapter; Luam Mesghenna, San Diego (CA) Chapter; Raven Edwards, Golden Triangle (TX) Chapter; and Jamie Edgerly, Oakland Bay Area (CA) Chapter. They made presentations at the 43rd WA Conference in Denver, CO.

Mentoring Global Thought Leaders and Change Agents

The goal of ’59 for the Future’ is to create thought leaders and change agents among youth, preparing them to examine and address complex global issues while increasing their competitiveness for college admission and the global marketplace.

Each Chapter may sponsor one high achieving girl in the 10th– 12th grade and provide a chapter mentor.  Students will explore one major issue each month, culminating in a presentation.  Presentations will be judged.  The student with the best presentation on each issue will be awarded a cash prize.

Fourteen chapters were selected to participate in the 2016 pilot program based on student characteristics and chapter geographic diversity. Chapters selected were from five states (California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas) representing 50% of states in the Western Area.

The Scholars competed for an expense paid trip to the Denver Area Conference, where they made presentations at the Program Luncheon, Black Lives Matter Forum and the 59 For The Future Workshop.
