Lorna Hankins has served as Executive Director of The National Kidney Foundation Serving Texas since February 2015. Before that appointment, she was Executive Director of The Sickle Cell Association of the Texas Gulf Coast-a position she held for six years after serving as the association’s Gala Honoree, Gala Co-Chair, and member of the Board of Directors. A highly-respected nonprofit executive, Lorna has raised millions of dollars for organizations around the country.
Additionally, Lorna is a Certified Mediator and former owner of JuryView, Incorporated — a national jury consulting firm focused on Intellectual Property issues. As a mediator, Lorna has worked with the University of Houston’s A. A. White Dispute Resolution Center to provide pro bono mediation services to low-income individuals and families. Lorna is a favored speaker at law conferences across the country where she speaks about effective trial communications skills and persuasion techniques.
Lorna has been actively involved in community service for most of her adult life and supports initiatives focused on care and services for the homeless, the eradication of child hunger, reading literacy, and the economic empowerment of women. Her community involvement has also included serving as a Board Member and Fund Development Chair for Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Inner City Visions, Board Member for the St. James Episcopalian Church School and Board Member and Fund Development Chair for Bay Area Turning Point-an agency offering a wide range of services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness. Lorna has been honored as an Ensemble Theater “Mother of the Year,” as well as a Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated-Bay Area Chapter Community Legend. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Lorna has served, as well, on the Clear Creek Curriculum Planning Committee and was a member of the Clear Lake Association of Business and Professional Women. Additionally, she is a sustaining member of The Houston Museum of Fine Arts and The Houston Ballet.
Before she was elected Western Area Vice Director in 2015, Lorna served in various positions in The Links, Incorporated including Western Area Communications Chair, where she created The Links, Incorporated’s Social Media Policy, 41st Western Area Conference Chair for the 2013 Conference held in Houston, Texas which had nearly 1000 registrants, Charter Member and Chapter President of Gulf Coast Apollo (TX) Chapter, among other offices and committee chairmanships.
Lorna, a graduate and Alumni Scholar of The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), is a former award-winning track & field athlete, and in her “spare” time enjoys long-distance running, reading, writing, and studying word origins.
Lorna is the proud mother of three adult children including son Ian Davis, graduate of Houston’s University of St. Thomas, now a writer and motivational speaker in Houston; son, Bruce Davis, graduate of UCLA, an All-American and Super Bowl Champion, and now an actor and athletic trainer for aspiring NFL prospect college football players in Los Angeles; and daughter, Dr. Jennifer Davis, graduate of Penn State University, and now a psychologist practicing in Fresno, California where she was inducted into the Fresno (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in June 2015.
